This week was fun because I got to sew. I hadn’t had the time, energy or honestly inspiration to sew lately. Maybe it was the lingering winter blues or the urgency of the garden work. Maybe it was just that I needed a little break. What ever it was, it was over this week and I had a bit of paper piecing fun :
I found this lovely pattern over at Wombat Quilts (along with so many others I’m dying to try) and as soon as I was finished, I knew I had to make a pillow for my Little Man.
I love making pillows. As much as I love making quilts, I have so little time to sew that a project, even a baby quilt, can take me months to finish. I also love learning techniques while attempting block patterns. So just put those 2 together and you have pillows! My kiddos love them. I made this one a while ago for Little Miss :
I was just starting out so it was more of an improve piece. She had fallen in LOVE with the butterfly fabric so I figured I would make her something while she was napping one day. That was about 15 months ago. To this day, she stills carries it everywhere, sleeps with it every night and won’t leave home for more than a few hours without it.
Now that Little Man is bigger, I figured it was time for him to have one of his own. So I took my finished block and simply added a soft cotton flannel border and made a flap in the back to be able to wash it if the drool stains get insane… and believe me, they will!
I had an old piece of ugly mustard brown jersey someone had given me in a scrap bag so I used it to make a soft, under stuffed pillow.
And here we go! As he grows up, I’ll be able to stuff it more. But for now, I think there will be more wrestling happening than actual sleeping!
What have you been creating lately? I’d love to know!
Gorgeous! I love the pattern, as well as your rainbow color selection. Wombat Quilts has a ton of beautiful blocks, huh? I love your idea of making a pillow, too. What a great, quick way to get out of a slump! Welcome back to the sewing world 🙂 I garden by day and sew by night. (Note that cleaning is not in there anywhere! haha)

She does… an all her prints are so modern and fun. Makes you want to jump in! I plan on going down the list one by one… they seem to increase in difficulty nicely.
Thank you for the welcome! And yes, our cleaning has been taking a back burner as well. I’m just too tired to sew at night. I usually end up reading!

Lovely colours! I’m sure he will love his new pillow. I actually got some sewing done tonight at a sewing club. My sewing machine at home refuses to cope with stretchy fabrics, so I went along to the club and managed to finish a dress-up cape for my niece.

How nice! I found out there is a sewing club in my area that let members use the long arm quilter for free… I think I may have to become a member of this club!!!!
Thank you for the kind words. He loved it! gave it a good beating when he got up from his nap. LOL!

surely not. The thing is that I also have a full-time job and a family so i’d better not be over-tempted!
