My name is Yanic. I'm a wife to a wonderful husband, a mother of 2 beautifully complex and unique children and a lover of all things inspiring. Having started a personal journey of self discovery when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago, I've since embraced a daily life of simpler pleasures and gratitude. As we get to know each other, you will know me as a quilter, a gardener, a Tao cultivator, a vegetarian foodie, a true believer in a healthy family life as being the secret to my happiness and hopefully as time goes on, a friend... Oh my, that’s a lot of dirt…a hard but satisfying weekend ahead of you!

Yes indeed! But that dirt is long term… It is for now adding a 4 X 12 ft bed, 2 cold frames (3 X 4), a 3 X 6 kitchen herb garden and my medicinal herb spiral. Then, the leftovers will be for filling the existing beds in fall since they are about 3-4 inches low.
So far, we are the 4 X 12 bed and one cold frame done. 🙂 Pretty exciting, I’ll tell you!!!! 🙂 have a great week-end.

I want to do it before the end of August to make sure that the perennial herbs I started have a good place to spend winter. (For now, they are in cinder blocks and can’t stay there, you know?) I’m just not quite sure on the design yet. I’ll post pictures for sure!

Thank you… it was a busy day and we still have so much to do in upcoming weeks, but so gratifying! I’ll have pictures this week of the new bed and our first dug in cold frame. Fall/winter harvest here we go!

That is some beautiful soil!
Our gardening is done right now, but soon it will be time for the fall garden to be planted and I am hoping for a break in the heat to get the herb bed cleaned out, it’s a mess.

Yes, we were blessed today with a cool and breezy day and now, we should be getting rain most of the next 48 hours, so perfect timing. The soil will get nice an soaked in the new beds we built and we can go ahead and do some succession planting and start fall crops by mid week! 🙂
Hopefully you get a bit of cool weather here soon. It’s so frustrating when you want to work outside and can’t…

Thank you! We already filled a new 4 X 12, 10 inches high garden bed and a 3 X 4, 16 inch deep cold frame and we’ve barely made a dent in it. LOL! So much growing space… It’s very exciting.

It is… I actually planted some stuff in our new bed today… lettuces, herbs, radishes. 🙂 Hope it grows. First time succession planting. *fingers crossed*

I hope your dirt is used up before ours was. Nine years later there is still a small overgrown mound next to my driveway–what’s left of my own truckload of dirt. 😉 Good luck!

Oh, it will be DONE before winter!!!! What ever is left in November, we are dividing between the existing beds to refill them. They’ve compacted quite a bit in 3 years and even though we amend with some compost every year, we’ve never really honestly refilled them. Not to mention the herb spiral I want to build. That will take quite a bit of dirt since I want it about 4 feet high.
Oooh… just writing about it makes me all happy. So much food and herbs to be grown!!!! 🙂

LOL! I’m sure that is not true… I’m sorry gardening isn’t so easy for you. It isn’t for us either : Some years (like this year) are amazing, some years (like last, ugh) are disastrous! But we are getting better. 🙂

We’ll have pictures soon… it’s just pouring rain right now so it,s hard to go out and snap them. 🙂 Anyway, my husband still needs to finish putting together my reclaimed barn wood herb spiral (yep!) and need to put the top on out first cold frame. 🙂
