A bit of creating in the home

Although I’ve been a bit slower going on my fall projects, our home has been filled with little creative moments that I just love capturing on film.

We’ve recently added an art hanging line in the living room and it has already been very well used. When the line went up, we had one simple rule : Space was limited, so only FINISHED art could go up. All of you with toddlers and preschoolers probably have a fridge full of 1/3 colored pages and drawings with 2 lines on them with a pending promise to “finish them soon” from your little ones. Well, this has been an amazing motivator. The line has been up for a little over a week now and we add pieces daily. We are due for our first rotation and a box of kept art will be created for keepsakes.

The Spielgaben set is never very far. We take it out multiple times a week for structured and free play. Building, connecting, piecing together and creating have become second nature to Little Miss and we couldn’t be happier. They’ve actually come out with an upgrade kit that we are pre-ordering this week. If you haven’t looked into this system for your little ones, please do. Best investment we’ve ever made.

And last but not least, I’m so grateful for a husband that sees beauty where most see trash. He had been promising me a head-board for a while now, but we had been just so busy that it would easily fall on the back burner.  But with the move into the smaller room, he made it a priority. Did I ever mention we are pallet people? We pick them up and save them for just about anything. My husband has made our daughter’s big bed with them, made my first sewing table with them, made bookshelves with them… You name it, he’s thought about it. Also, a few weeks back, we were lucky enough to find a load of 150 year old barn wood for free.  Put one and the other together and there you have it. He is planning on adding a few night stands in the next few months. I just adore it. The wood is gorgeous and the rustic look of it just makes me happy.

What kind of projects have you got going in your home?

About Yanic A.

Hello to all of you and thank you for stopping by! My name is Yanic. I'm a wife to a wonderful husband, a mother of 2 beautifully complex and unique children and a lover of all things inspiring. Having started a personal journey of self discovery when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago, I've since embraced a daily life of simpler pleasures and gratitude. As we get to know each other, you will know me as a quilter, a gardener, a Tao cultivator, a vegetarian foodie, a true believer in a healthy family life as being the secret to my happiness and hopefully as time goes on, a friend... I will try to share with you my days as they unfold, speaking of my happy successes without censoring my challenges, trying to make this blog a true portrait of the ever-changing path that I have chosen for myself. I'm hoping to find in these pages others to share with and learn from, bringing to light the absolute connection in all things and people, showing this world as being a true community.

Your new headboard is beautiful! What a peaceful room! I love your art hanging line. We have one as well, and although our living room looks fairly messy and chaotic, we love the fact that the children’s projects are on display.

Same here. Now that my sewing corner has been moved downstairs, we had such a big empty wall. I can’t think of a better way to fill it.

I’ll pass along the compliment to my hubby. The room is amazing. And we are north east facing now so we get the sunrise. Soft light on those rare mornings we get to sleep in is beautiful.

Your art line looks gorgeous up against that lovely, bright green wall. And I’m very envious of that head board – it’s just beautiful.

That is what I thought so as well. Everything just pops. She gets so excited about it too.

Do you have access to pallet wood? Cause it was fairly easy to make. I’m sure my husband could send you instructions.

  3. Some lovely creating in your home. I love displaying my little man’s art work in our home, making me smile every time I walk by them.

Love the headboard. We are reclaimed wood people too. My hubby is forever stopping at barns and leaving his phone number in the mailbox so he can see about getting some wood 🙂 He uses it in our home and for his artwork.

Hope your elbow is starting to feel better soon. xo

Thank you. Yeah, it,s hard for us to drive by unwanted wood. We have a pretty big car, so it’s easy to stop and pick some up… when we don’t have kiddos an groceries and strollers and such. We have been guilty of having them babysat while going on wood runs. LOL!

We’ve displaying Little Miss’art for awhile, but like most, the fridge was the main “gallery” and that just wasn’t practical. Plus, Little Man getting bigger meant he could reach the drawings ans crumple them nice and good. This has been a perfect alternative.

My arm is feeling better. The weeks of down time are starting to pay off. Still a ways to go though. Still can’t unbend my arm fully, but it’s coming. Treating ourselves to a Nordic spa evening this coming Saturday, Soaking in the hot baths should help a bunch.

Your headboard is lovely, we don’t have one. I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled looking for some reclaimed wood for a coat rack. And the clothesline art wall is JUST what I was looking for to put up in our learning room. Thank you!
