For the last 3 weeks, our trip to the pumpkin patch with Little Miss’ preschool has been postponed. Torrential rain and bitter cold turned Oct 16th into the 23rd, and then again the 23rd into the 30th. It was SO worth the wait!
The excitement was palpable, most of the kids had never been on a school bus before. There were a lot of us parents that just decided to tag along which made this a great family outing and a chance to get to know each other. Younger brothers and sisters were invited to tag along as well so we had kids from just a few months of age, tucked inside cozy baby bjorns to about 5 years old.
When we first arrived, everybody was treated to the last of the fresh picked apples and then, we hoped the tractor pulled shuttle, passed the orchard, to the pumpkin patch. There were many that had passed their prime, but then there were some that were just perfect. And everyone got their pick.
After picking, the morning was full : Petting farms, feeding clover to the alpacas, eating bannock over an open fire and giant trampolines! The sun was shining, the air was cool but comfortable. It was just the perfect morning.
Maybe that is why both Little Man and Miss napped for over 3 hours in the afternoon! 🙂
I hope you all had a lovely day. Last day of October tomorrow, how quickly time flies. They are announcing our first snow here on Saturday, looks like it might be a very early winter.

Look at that bannock, there is nothing like bannock cooked over the open fire. So good! Looks like a great day. Glad the weather finally cooperated and you got in your trip to the pumpkin patch.

Just in time too… We had already bought pumpkins for jack-o-lanterns just in case, so these will be roasted, pureed and frozen for yummy soups and baked goods in winter. 🙂

My college daughter sent a Snapchat of her pumpkin pie earlier this week. She cooked down the pumpkin to use in the pie. It looked so good it made my mouth water.

Roasted pumpkin puree is a must on our stocks for winter. I never use the canned stuff, I just don’t think it tastes quite right, you know? I always make a few pies come the holidays. So good!

The best! I honestly never thought of making it here at the house over the fire pit. Might have to bundle up soon and try it before the pit gets buried in snow!

That is nothing, we are at the end (very end, they close the patch today) of the season… You should have seen the fields of orange, acres and acres of them… We drove by a few times, it was breath taking!

I remember preschool pumpkin patch trips with each of our kids and we have enjoyed several family ones with grandkids. What great memories.

I love picking pumpkins… there is something really triumphant about picking something that is still growing in your winter clothes!

Looks like so much fun! Our kiddos aren’t quite bit enough for the big school trip to the pumpkin patch (they’ll go next year), but we grown our own. This year we got exactly three jack-o-lantern pumpkins–perfect for a family of three. Until the goats got out and ate one! We were recarving last night at 4:30pm! All was well in the end. LOL! Your goat have good taste… Mmmmmm pumpkins! Sorry for the extra work though. Little Miss is 4yo, this was her first field trip, she was pretty excited. Families were invited so we tagged along with a bunch of parents and siblings. We had a blast! 🙂

Oh yes… pumpkin patches stretch for miles here. They are just one of our favorite things. 🙂 I’m sure they would really love it. Wish we were closer so we could all share it together!

A lovely day. We go to the pumpkin patch many many times in the fall… But then again we live 5 minutes away from one. Ours does not have llamas, how cool is that! What lucky littles you have. I had to look up bannock, never heard of it before. Sounds yummy. I will have to attempt a gluten free version on our next fire. Be well.

I’m sure you could make it with gluten free flours. Those mixes like Bob’s Red Mill are pretty amazing.
The worse part is, we don’t live that far from the pumpkin patch, but we were waiting for the field trip. 🙂 If the weather had been horrible again, we would have gone ourselves on Halloween day.
