We were on the road much of the day yesterday. A round trip to Montreal for a little bit of Christmas shopping and some time with my sister and our niece. We are so lucky to have little people that do very well with travel (for 3 hours at a time at least) an we had a lovely, but very late day.
So today was all about slow stuff : Slow play in the morning light, slow walks in the warm snow-melting air and a big slow bountiful trip to the city’s year-round farmer’s market in the heart of Old Quebec. At this time of year, we still have a handful of small local farmer stands that are selling the last of their conservation veggies and fruit. We were able to get potatoes, carrots, squash and cabbage. We also laid our hands on crisp apples and the last of the local pears. Then on to the more yearly vendors, artisans and specialty stores. We had ordered our flour for the winter, 60 lbs total, for our bread making and baking needs. As we walked along the stalls, we found dried cranberries, fresh cheese, fresh chicken eggs and the ultimate surprise, fresh organic quail eggs from just about 20 miles down the road. This nice little man assured us he would be at the market all winter. What a treat!
Dinner was simple, bread and pumpkin cookies were made, the evening is calm and the kids are going to bed SO early! The day has been a little rough after a short night and everyone is due for some peace and quiet I think. Anyway, mom and dad are looking forward to some chamomile tea and a little bit of garden planning for next year.

It’s wonderful… And right now, many of the stands that are only there for the holidays have started setting up. Soon there will be little things like handmade donuts, roasted cinnamon popcorn and musicians playing Christmas carols. I have a feeling we’ll be going back a lot in the next month. 🙂

how nice that the children travel well. My daughter was good but my son was not. He was a little devil as a baby and toddler. Now that they are adults well it’s easy as pie 🙂 Love the photo of the sled and snow. Glad you were able to see your sister! I love seeing mine.

My sister and I are guilty of living too busy of lives. We only live 2 hours away, but only see each other 4-5 times a year. It’s always nice. And our niece is just growing like a weed. We just adore our precious time with her.

I love it when they bring all their toys together and create something amazing. Makes me feel like even in times of doubt, we are doing something right. 🙂
We are letting the eggs age a few days. They were literally a few hours old when we bought them. My Chinese doctor told me that quail eggs are wonderful to improve kidney function which I seem to have issues with in winter. 🙂 I haven’T had them in years, it will definitely be a treat!
