As we get closer to the Winter Solstice, we’ve noticed something strange. Time seems to be slowing down. This will be our first year celebrating the shortest day, the first year we will mark this passage of the seasons, the turning point, the beginning of the sun’s journey back to our side of the world.
Tonight we start preparations for our small family Sunday celebration. We’ve been inspired by so many in our ways to celebrate, but I would like to thank Kim and KC in particular for their support in answering questions, sharing their experience and allowing us to enter this new tradition confident that it is the right thing for our family. We wanted to do so much at first, it was honestly becoming overwhelming. Such wonderful activities, books, traditions out there, we didn’t know where to start. But we finally decided on a few activities to do together, following the day, letting nature guide us…
I’ll be back to share with you our activities throughout the week-end. I’m hoping you’ll share with me your celebrations. Feel free to link your pages for all to see in the comments below.
The family wide sickness seems to be loosening its grasp. Although we are not out of the woods yet, appetites are mostly back, energy levels are up and we are finally back on track. I’ve been quiet this week for simple lack of things to say. Our evenings were full of candles, slow meals, baking, coloring, reading and warm baths. Our mornings have slowed as well. With preschool soon coming to a halt for the holidays, we’ve been slower getting out the door in the morning and Little Miss has been getting surprised with early pick-ups all week. We’ve enjoyed new books, pancake breakfasts and mama even got to enjoy some morning knitting while the kiddos entertained themselves.
I have to say I’ve never felt more calm and peaceful so close to the holidays. And I know our choices have made a difference in our daughter as well. I’ve received comments from her teachers saying that she’s the only one in her group who hasn’t shown a change in her concentration or attention levels with the holidays coming. And that to me is by far one of my greatest motivation.
Oh what wonderful promise 2015 holds…
Wishing all of you a most wonderful week-end and a happy HAPPY Winter Solstice! xo
this looks so calm and peaceful! Enjoy!

I agree that summer and fall always go by so quickly… We didn’t celebrate summer solstice last year, we will for sure in 2015.
Thank you for the well wishes. xox

They are all wonderful… Kim suggested Nightlights, wonderful for preschool and grade school children. Winter is the Warmest season is probably one of my new favorites!

This post makes me so happy. Not only are you guys feeling better, you have found your own way through the holidays and are seeing the pay off. Congratulations my friend. It really is lovely when things come together and all of sudden you wake up one day and the life you have been working to carve for your family is right there in front of you. Soak up the peace and calm, and enjoy your Winter Solstice weekend. Much love to all of you. xo
PS Winter is the Warmest Season is new to me, might have to look it up. Good for older littles or is it for the younger set?

Thank you Kim! It truly is… I haven’t felt this good in years in every sphere and dimensions of my life, body and spirit before. It really is what I’m meant to do…
The book is great! Good for younger sets as well. Beautiful illustrations, minimal text. I would have read this with my daughter when she was 3 no problem. She just understand sit more now. 🙂

I read this morning that not only is Solstice the longest day of the year, this year it is the darkest night of the moon. It’s the new moon so there will be no moonlight at all. It will be so dark the meteor shower will be easy to see if the sky is clear. I am looking forward to it. Happy Solstice!

We live in the city… I’m not sure it would get dark enough for us to see it… Hmm… I wonder if we could go on a drive! That might be worth exploring for sure. Thank you! xo

So glad you are finding peace this season. A wonderful gift that we can give ourselves and our families. I love that stitch pattern that you are working on! And I am looking forward to check out your book recommendation of “Winter is the Warmest Season.”
Today was our last day of school. I am very much looking forward to two weeks of not trying to get everyone out of the house on time!

Thank you…
It was such a dishcloth pattern (I’m just a beginner so for me, this was way outside my usual pattern). Here is the link if you’d like to check it out : http://homespunliving.blogspot.ca/2007/11/waffle-knit-dishcloth-pattern.html
You will love the book I’m sure. The illustrations alone set off a multitude of conversations here, they are gorgeous. 🙂
I wish you a wonderful holiday with your babies at home… xo
