A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2015.
Little Miss : Patience was definitely a virtue this week for you : Learning to share and live in a group again at preschool, getting back to a rhythm that included restful nights of sleep and fixed meal times. Little things like taking your bath at night instead of jumping into the shower with mama in the morning was a daily negotiation, but we managed to find our way again. And today was extra exciting, it being the first morning of your very first dance classes. You had your little dance outfit on as soon as breakfast was done and sat there asking “when” for hours before it was finally time to go. You are growing up so fast, becoming a strong, smart and self-knowing young lady. I love watching every moment.

Little Man : Some might say we were a bit rough on you this week. Without knowing it, you had your own New Year’s intentions, we took them for you. We started working on weening the pacifier this week and on transitioning to one nap mid-day. The first few days went well, I think you thought it was a game. But by Friday, you were done with the whole thing. But we will get through this, as a family. You have a strong daddy, a patient mommy and a loving sister that will stand with you through the tantrums and heartaches. Regardless, you always have a smile for mama when the camera comes out and for that, I’m eternally grateful. I love you my big, sometimes grumpy, growing boy.

Beautiful captures my friend. From a former dance teacher, I hope she enjoy her first day of dance, the first class is always the most exciting, for teacher and student alike.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. xo

You are a dancer, what kind of dance?
She adored it… She can’t wait for next week already. All girls in the group : 18 girls, 1 teacher, 2 assistants… It was a very ballerina setting. 🙂 She found out they’ll be putting on little show at the end of the class. She is just tickled.
Hope you are enjoying your week-end as well. We hit the woods this afternoon, a bit windy, but gorgeous!

I was…tap, jazz and ballet, worked professionally a little and taught tap and jazz for 24 years. At one point had my own studio as well.
Glad she enjoyed it. And a little show, how fun.

Your daughter has the most beautiful curls (don’t tell my son I said that). I hope she enjoyed her dance class. It’s been a few years since my dancing days. Oh the memories… Your son is a charmer, I can see that for sure. You will all pull through. We are also still fighting afternoon naps, but there is an end for us. I hear that one day they do adjust. Hang in there Mamma, we will make it.

It seems better this week-end. We had a lot of fun activities at the museum this morning, Costco trip and home. He slept late like a champ. To our very happy surprise, he slept almost 12 hours straight last night. What a blessing!
Hope your transitions happen soon too. So happy to hear that Panda has been taking to his own room.
Hope your week-en was just lovely!

Beautiful shots. I agree with everyone about the eyes. I particularly love your daughter’s eyes in this picture. Such an all-seeing gaze. I hope she really enjoys the dancing. I did ballet for 11 years and ballroom dancing after that. Dancing is such a joyful thing! Wishing you a good week, in which Little Man gets more accustomed to some of the changes.

Thank you Sophie… She adored the first class so hopefully it will keep up. She gets over excited and has difficulties with direction. But that will settle I’m sure. Little is doing well. Although the days are harder, the nights are superb. Again last night, he slept 11 hour straight. But he’s been fussy, not wanting to eat or settle during the day. We will get there soon I’m sure.

Ah I hoped she loved dance. I was a dancer growing up and now I teach a homeschool group for my daughter and her friends- it’s such a sweet time. The pictures are beautiful and hope your little man is managing. I have a babe with a pace right now and none of our other children ever took one, so we’re in new territory here.

So many dancers out there. I was somewhat of a jock. LOL! But always appreciated dance. It is so beautiful and graceful. I hope she keeps loving it.
Thank you for the kind words. My daughter took a pacy for sleep for a long time, but when it was time to let it go, the transition was zero days… It’s like she never really needed it. My boy needs soothing. He has both a blankie and a pacie and we are trying to make both of those “sleeping objects only”… The blankie was getting ridiculous. We couldn’t go outside without it, I as washing it twice a day. I kept having visions of Linus (from Charlie Brown)… my son leaving for school with his blanket over the shoulder, his thumb in his mouth. *shivers* I don’t mind him needing to sooth, but I’m all about appropriate times and other ways. Now we snuggle a lot when he wakes up. I hold his hand more when he feels insecure. The connection is helping.

Can’t help jumping in again here. My son had a blankie which helped him sleep as a baby. It was a godsend (we thought!). We even tried to get my daughter to adopt a blankie when she was a baby. We had no idea how long it would be before my son could cope without it. ALL our photos of him until the age of nearly 4 have this muslin hanging out of his mouth! I had 16 of them so there was a rotation… Even now (aged 6 1/2) he still has it for a few minutes before bed and in the morning. For many years it was his confidence; he wouldn’t go into a new situation without it and when he fell over and hurt himself, he would call for it before shouting for us!! But hey, I didn’t want my children to have a dummy, and clearly my son was a child who needed something.

I totally get that! It’s why we are trying to have him have it at appropriate times and start relying on other ways to sooth and comfort himself. And I think that associating it only for sleep has made him sleep better. Before, he had his pacie and blanket all the time, so nothing particularly soothing about them in bed. He would wake up 4-5 times a night. Now, when we pull out the blanket and pacifier, he knows : Bedtime. His sleeping through his nights was almost instantaneous. So yes, he,s having a harder transition during the day, but we are him to help him through it and give him the love an comfort he needs. And we are all rested to boot so HURRAY!

This project is such a great idea to save and remember these precious moments of your children growing up. When I was a child, situation in our country politically and economically was bad, so I don’t have many pictures from that time. So, kudos for new, cheaper technologies than film cameras! 🙂

I agree… it always baffles me how few pictures my parents have of me growing up. Now, we snap just about everything… I want to print more pictures out this year, force myself to go through everything and only keep the ones that really mean something. This is a great way of choosing that one special one each week.

Oh my! What a wonderful idea! I would love to do something like this, but fear that if I set the goal, I will only be setting myself up for failure. So instead, I will enjoy yours, perhaps shed some tears as I reflect on my own two sweet (yet crazy) children and my successes and failures as a mommy, and be okay with that. Thank you, always, for sharing 🙂

Oh sweet yet crazy here too so please, enjoy. For me, taking pictures isn’t what scares me… it’s the intentional journaling. I wanted to take that extra step. I’m looking for moments now, special ones I really have something to say about. It’s been fun. 🙂
