Good morning all,
I was supposed to sit down this week-end and really start writing down our plans for the gardens this year and all the lovely varieties we were going to grow, but the week-end got away from me : In a very good way…
If that first picture doesn’t speak volumes enough, Little Miss adored her first dance class. She was surprisingly focused and listened pretty well. She has a tendency to get so over excited, directions can be an issue sometimes. But the teachers were amazing, filled with fun and creative ways of getting the girls (that is right, all girls!) up and moving in minutes. It was such a pleasure to watch.
On Saturday afternoon we hit the woods. The wind was a bit wicked, but an easy remedy is always to find a thick enough forest and let the trees shield us. So we did. We stayed close to home, headed for a little local trail behind one of the high schools and headed for the snow mobile lane. We watched the filtered sun slowly set, followed hare tracks and wore out two little people before heading to our favorite Café for hot coffee, hot chocolate and breakfast for dinner, our favorite thing to eat!
The next day was such a treat. As much as I sometimes think living out in the country would be amazing, I do think I would miss the city. One of the things I would miss the most is Le Musée National des Beaux-Arts de Québec. In addition to being an wonderful, affordable, place to go soak up all the best the world of Art has to offer, they are extremely Family Friendly, offering temporary and permanent exhibits geared towards children that are free, imaginative, inspiring and just plain amazing. I had shared last summer about our adventures in exploring the Inuit miniatures exhibit, but this Sunday was all about La Chambre des Merveilles (The Room of Wonders). The kids wore costumes, climbed and crawled, had imaginary tea parties and read wonderful books. And all of it for free. This was closing week-end and I was a bit sad I didn’t know the exhibit was there before. But it was such an amazing experience for both of them.
We all went to bed happy and spent last night. The weather has finally settled, it feels more like the January we know. We are looking forward to many inches more of that powdery greatness over the next few days.

i’m glad little miss enjoyed her class, sure looks it! it’s just not natural for children to sit and be silent and focus. they are built for splashes and dancing and climbing and many things at once. so when instructors are able to capture their minds so well, that’s always amazing to watch.
we also enjoyed hot chocolate this weekend. we make it a special treat snuggled under a blanket together.

I totally agree… They have to start being able to sit fr a while at this age, but not a majority of the time.
Hot chocolate is the number 1 treat here… followed very closely by kettle popcorn!

Sounds like a wonderful weekend, the museum looks great, I do miss that kind of outing where we live. I love the first picture, dancing is such a joyful thing and you caught that perfectly.

Thank you Sally… I just snapped and snapped. This was the only class parents are allowed. We will be waiting in a room starting next week so that the girls can prepare the end of class show. So I took full advantage. 🙂

The museum looks amazing just the sort of place to spend the day exploring. Your weekend sounds and looks wonderful a much better way to spend your time than blogging!

I agree… I felt a little guilty because I really wanted to have our plans shared by the end of the week-end, but nothing to make me regret putting it completely on hold. 🙂

That sounds like the best sort of weekend – and I love the sound of that exhibit; touchy feely museums where you can actually explore what’s on show are my very favourite sort!

They are my kind as well, but they are too few and far between… Once I find a museum that has sensory exhibits, I’m usually all over them. 🙂

The Room of Wonders looks great! And I love the dancing pics. My children go to dance school and we have no idea what they do… we’re not allowed in the room and there’s no glass window! By the way, has your daughter suddenly grown?? She looks much taller!

She is taller… she grew a whole inch between her 4th birthday (mid-sept) and January 1st! Slimmer too… she’s done with pretty much all the baby fat, she’s just our little tall blade of grass now. 🙂

Oh, that museum exhibit looks so fun! Love the “tree” house. And such cute little ones in dance class. Could never talk the boys into it (not that I tried very hard). Sounds like a fantastic weekend!

Oh it was… I don’t know how Little Man will feel about dancing. I know he likes music a lot. I’m thinking more the musician, less the dancer. 🙂

Looks like a wonderful weekend! That’s quite a bit of snow – we haven’t had more than a few dustings but it’s still early yet. Lovely pictures.

We are nicely covered snow wise now. It was touch and go for a while there, but it would take a LOT to melt this now. 🙂 Although we had about 3 times this last year by now, but hey! Just means earlier spring and early gardens.

What a perfect weekend. I love when our kids find something that holds their attention so. My girls found that in soccer at an early age, but art and theater have also had their moments.
I love the pictures at the museum. That’s the kind of place I took my girls when they were young, on daddy-daughter dates. Just go for an afternoon, and not care about the time. Get on the floor with them, help them discover, and just watch. A beautiful day.

They are the best days!
I don’t know if dance will be her thing, but at least it is a thing! This is the first time (besides swim classes when she was very little) that she has a fixed schedule for an activity outside of preschool. It’s a learning curve for us as well. We are very much “wing-it” kind of people and committing to 12 weeks of being at a certain place at a certain time every Saturday morning is definitively a new thing. I’m looking forward to seeing where this takes us as a family.
I’m always on the look out for interactive museums, activities, festivals… It’s the best way for them to really get out there and experience it all.

That museum looks amazing!!! It looks like a lovely balance of “this is artwork” and “yes you can touch it/climb it/play on it”. We have a Children’s Discovery Museum in Bangor, ME, which is really fun, but not quite as soothing as an environment. Everything is hands-on, so that’s always good. Thank you for sharing your busy weekend!

It was fun… I wish their exhibits would be there longer though. I’ll keep that museum in mind! We want to take the kiddos to Maine this summer for a long week-end and that is on the way. (We want to take them to Acadia)… Is that anywhere near you?
