9/52 – Her & Him

A portrait of my son, once a week, every week, in 2015.

Little Man : What a week. Life changed for all of us this week, but for you, things just stayed the same. We found out on Friday that your little left ear doesn’t quite work the way it should and that is most likely why we are yet to hear you speak all the beautiful words that are probably swimming around your head. How I wish I could hear the sounds you hear so I could help you make sense of them. But we are all embarking on this adventure with you, what a relief to finally understand what is happening. You are going to do great things my little man, and we will be with you every step of the way.

Little Miss : Oh how you love to dress up! And how I love that you will dress up in just about anything. You are inspired by all things, places, cultures, moods… This morning, you were an Arabian Princess. You find everything beautiful, you are completely free of judgment, you find nothing “weird” and for that, I’m truly grateful. You are growing into such a compassionate little lady.

About Yanic A.

Hello to all of you and thank you for stopping by! My name is Yanic. I'm a wife to a wonderful husband, a mother of 2 beautifully complex and unique children and a lover of all things inspiring. Having started a personal journey of self discovery when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago, I've since embraced a daily life of simpler pleasures and gratitude. As we get to know each other, you will know me as a quilter, a gardener, a Tao cultivator, a vegetarian foodie, a true believer in a healthy family life as being the secret to my happiness and hopefully as time goes on, a friend... I will try to share with you my days as they unfold, speaking of my happy successes without censoring my challenges, trying to make this blog a true portrait of the ever-changing path that I have chosen for myself. I'm hoping to find in these pages others to share with and learn from, bringing to light the absolute connection in all things and people, showing this world as being a true community.

  1. Ah, dress up, always so much fun when they dress up and try on different personalities. It looks like she was having fun.

Your little man looks a little more grown up this week. You know you have not been far from my thoughts this week, and I will continue to check in. Sending you all much love as you embark on this new journey. I know it will hold ups and downs along the way, but with all the love and light that shines forth from you, I know you will get through it all. Hugs to you all. xo

Exactly… knowing means half the battle is won. We just have to change our way of communicating now, but that is exciting right? New things to learn keeps you young! 🙂

Thank you Summer. We were expecting it so it wasn’t too hard of a blow. If anything, it was a relief to know that the deafness is only in one ear. We are up to the challenge, thank you for your sweet words. xo

  5. I am so glad that you found out about your son’s hearing. i hope in the days to come they intervene and help his hearing and speech 🙂 Early intervention works wonders!! As for you little girl, she is beyond sweet with the dressing up. My daughter loved to dress up and put make up on and pretend to be all things.

Thank you Karen… I feel we are in really good hands. I already have a speech therapist lined up for early April and we will get the tools and strategies we need to make this learning process as seamless as possible for everyone. we always make jokes that we’ve always wanted to learn a 3rd language : Looks like sign language is just as good as any! 🙂

Oh, my daughter is already in love with rosy cheeks and sparkly eyes. I don’T mind so much because I use all natural mineral makeup (for the few times I DO use make up) so I know I’m not putting anything on her skin that will damage it, but I have a feeling I’ll have a very prissy little miss. 🙂

Oh I love your Arabian Princess – she has a wonderful imagination! And while I would wish there was nothing the matter with your wee man’s hearing I’m glad it’s been picked up now so you’ve got the tools to help him find his words.

Thank you Carie… Funny enough, now that we know, it’s almost as though all the weight has been lifted from our shoulders. From now on, the only direction to go is forward. We already have an in home evaluation with a speech therapist mid April. She will be able to help us find the right tools and techniques to help him thrive.

And yes, imagination, not an issue! LOL!

  7. We have a little boy in our church who had 20/900 vision in one eye (completely blind) and now it is up to 20/40, and rapidly progressing. We have known God to be a compassionate healer, and He is just looking or hearts to turn toward Him and trust Him. Love that little Arabian Princess–she is quite a girl! Lots of love to you and yours.

What gorgeous photos again, love the dressing up. And although you say things stayed the same for your little man, really they didn’t. The fact that you know what the situation is now just made everything so much better for him. With the benefit of hindsight, remembering some of your words from quite a few posts now, I’m sure your mind has been worrying that there was something wrong that you didn’t yet know about, and as hard as it is in some ways, knowing is the most important part. I’m sure you will be amazing at helping him to be sure this doesn’t hold him back in any way, and I’m equally sure you’ll all of you learn amazing new skills and greater wisdom on the journey.

Thank you Sally, and I think that is true. For him, I’m hoping, he feels like we are there for him now. It was about trying to get him to “our level” for so long, now it’s about all of us finding that new level. And yes, you are correct… I try to be all zen, but in the end, I’m a control freak when it comes to knowledge. I want to know it all, I want to understand it all. It was driving me crazy. Just sitting, waiting for him to “unblock” as so many call it. Sometimes you just know. Especially when it is your kids.
