The internet is many things, but one thing I never thought it would bring me was meaningful friendships. See, Kim and I met almost 2 years ago through her blog.  I can’t quite remember how it came about. I think in one of her posts, she asked if anyone would like to receive a letter from her through the mail. I said I would. That was the beginning. Since then, she has become more than just a “blog friend”. She inspired me to start my own blog, she walked with me on the road towards becoming a stay at home mom, she has been a constant presence in my goals of creating for myself a simpler, more peaceful life. And yet, we had never met.

That changed this past week-end.

Our journey down South towards Ontario was a fun one with many stops along the way. Sandbanks Provincial Park was the highlight of our travels until, of course, we reached destination. What waited for us there was beyond hospitality. It was a window, a chance to be a part of a life, a rhythm, that we have been craving and working towards for so long. I can’t remember the last time I was so stress free, so at ease in my own skin. Conversation after conversation deepened our connection that, although had felt real, was still missing something : Faces, voices, energy.

Eating almost every meal outside, eating fresh seasonal food picked straight from the garden, long walks in the woods and by the water, our kids playing from early morning to late evening, looking at the stars, the crackle of so many warming fires, knitting in the shade, walking the farmer’s market, chickens eating table scraps at my feet, my son lounging against their beautiful and sweet dog, craft time with the kiddos while our husbands shared about art, homesteading and their passions…

Before we knew it, Monday morning came. Our departure came too quickly, finding us unprepared for the sorrow that came with it. But plans are already in motion for another visit and it will not be another 2 years, I can promise that.

About Yanic A.

Hello to all of you and thank you for stopping by! My name is Yanic. I'm a wife to a wonderful husband, a mother of 2 beautifully complex and unique children and a lover of all things inspiring. Having started a personal journey of self discovery when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago, I've since embraced a daily life of simpler pleasures and gratitude. As we get to know each other, you will know me as a quilter, a gardener, a Tao cultivator, a vegetarian foodie, a true believer in a healthy family life as being the secret to my happiness and hopefully as time goes on, a friend... I will try to share with you my days as they unfold, speaking of my happy successes without censoring my challenges, trying to make this blog a true portrait of the ever-changing path that I have chosen for myself. I'm hoping to find in these pages others to share with and learn from, bringing to light the absolute connection in all things and people, showing this world as being a true community.

We so did. We are already solidifying dates for this winter with J’s bosses. Thank you again for the most amazing time.

I’ll make sure and send you all the pictures I took of the kids. I’ll just resize them for convenience. 🙂

Such beautiful memories captured here. Kim’s home sounds like a slice of Heaven. One day I might just swim across this great lake that separates us so that we can meet as well. That would be a dream come true. I’m so glad the two of you were able to meet and for all the peace and memories your children were able to soak up. Be well.

It really is… her and her hubby have created quite a haven there. Very inspiring. We came back renewed, filled with hope and ideas for our own little homestead.

That would be so lovely to meet. I’ve said it so many time, but Panda and Little Man would just gel so well!

  7. Amazing photos and what a lovely experience! It’s a great thing to see people joined together and united in similar life philosophies. And the photo where your kiddos are using the dog as a pillow… Priceless! 🙂

How neat! Blog friendships have been one of the best surprises to come out of this whole undertaking, my own and reading about others’. It sounds like you’ve found a true kindred spirit. And your photos capture the joy–I especially like the one with the sparkler (?) and the one with the kids using the dog as a big pillow!

Oh my goodness, that dear sweet dog got So MUCH loving from my kiddos. She was so patient with them.
I have to agree with you that these bonds, based on mutual interests and passions, have been life changing. I will never be able to express how deeply this community has touched me.
