To my daughter on her 5th Birthday

“5, can you believe it?”

That is what you asked everyone who called to wish you a happy birthday today.

My grown up Little Miss. Where did the time go?

We had a very low-key day for actual birthday. You had school today and were handed a crown to wear throughout the day. You had picked your outfit so nicely. “A birthday outfit needs to sparkle mom!” Yes, yes it does.

Coming home, you and your brother spent most of the hours before dinner in the backyard, running through the sprinkler. It reached 34’C with humidity this afternoon (93’F) which felt so strange for mid September. But the heat and the sun were welcome. We ate popsicles, played and had a blast until dad came home with dinner… your favorite : SUSHI! And for dessert,  chocolate-raspberry macaroons. We chatted and stuffed our faces, then headed to the park. By the time we left, you and your brother were spent and you asked to go to bed after only a few minutes.

What a wonderful age you are entering my love, so filled with adventure and promise. You are no longer part of the “little ones” at school and the age suits you. Every morning, I watch you take that long walk across the school yard, your backpack and lunch bag strapped to you and I think to myself “she’s gotten a little taller I think”. But it’s more than that. I think you walk taller, you have an air of confidence about you that I just love to see.

Happy birthday my sweetheart : May this next trip around the sun bring you places you have never gone before.  May it be the first of many wonderful years of self discovery. Know that your daddy and I will never be far if ever you are looking for our hand to hold. We love you very much!

About Yanic A.

Hello to all of you and thank you for stopping by! My name is Yanic. I'm a wife to a wonderful husband, a mother of 2 beautifully complex and unique children and a lover of all things inspiring. Having started a personal journey of self discovery when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago, I've since embraced a daily life of simpler pleasures and gratitude. As we get to know each other, you will know me as a quilter, a gardener, a Tao cultivator, a vegetarian foodie, a true believer in a healthy family life as being the secret to my happiness and hopefully as time goes on, a friend... I will try to share with you my days as they unfold, speaking of my happy successes without censoring my challenges, trying to make this blog a true portrait of the ever-changing path that I have chosen for myself. I'm hoping to find in these pages others to share with and learn from, bringing to light the absolute connection in all things and people, showing this world as being a true community.

Happy Birthday lovely girl!! We’d always said our girls were similar and would get on like a house on fire but I hadn’t realised how close they are in age – Kitty turns five on Monday! Here’s to a wonderful year of being five for both our girls 🙂

Thank you for the wishes. We are vegetarian so we eat the veggie ones. But she’ll eat so many little cucumber and avocado rolls. She loves seaweed. She brings nori for snacks in her lunches. 🙂 She has asked for sushi for her birthday dinner for 3 years now. We’ll see how that evolves, but she says it every year, it’s her very favorite food.

i never thought about seaweeds for my little one, but she chews my seaweeds pills so i guess she’d love them as your girl does. the fact is that it’s hard to find them here in the shops…

We re blessed with wonderful Asian grocery stores in our city. My daughter loves going. We have friend of Asian origine and they introduced her to so many exotic flavors like black fungus, bamboo shoots, miso and seaweed. She will eat just about everything. 🙂

Happy Birthday! And what a beautiful birthday smile, the photo with the sunflower is especially lovely. It sounds like this is going to be a wonderful year. Seems very strange to see/hear about your hot weather over there – you’re well over double what we have here, we need a midpoint of the two!

Thank you Sally… her fancy free candid camera moments are always the best. She just tends to want to “pose” LOL! I need to catch her off guard.
And YES! I would take 10’C less with pleasure… But at the same time, my garden is growing like e were in June. I can’t complain. 🙂

Thank you so much… I will pass along your wishes. And I agree about the picture. I love when they come out so nicely. 🙂 It’s one of my “fall equinox” intentions to work on the inside of our home. Making it less cluttered (yet again) and ore personal and warm. More framed pictures of my beautiful babies is on my list.
