Little Miss : The moment we came home from vacation, we went downtown…  How you love your city! You could walk the streets, go up the hundreds of steps, eat pastries in your favorite café and soak up the sounds and sights many of your waking hours. As much as you love nature, there is a big part of you that is and forever will be a city girl. And that is okay. Embrace and love every part of yourself my love, self acceptance is one of life’s greatest gifts! ❤

Little Man : Stopping to smell the roses, literally. LOL! You started breathing very strongly through your nose. It has been amazing for us because now, you actually blow your nose, but how wonderful that you are now taking the time to smell flowers, smell your food, smell the air around you… It has opened up a whole new level of facial expressions and physical communication and every breakthrough in communication is a huge victory for all of us. Once again my love : We are listening… with every part of our body, we hear you. And we love you! ❤

Little Man : You met one of your heroes today… as part of your birthday extravaganza, your very sweet sweet aunt took you to meet Daniel Tiger. We weren’t sure how you would react : Would the “bigger-than-life” friend scare you or amaze you? We lucked out and you just had a blast. You got to hold his hand, hug him, give home big high-5s and bring a little part of him home. It brought tears to my eyes to see you SO happy… And that is all I ever want for you, limitless happiness. ❤

26/52 – Her & Him (Summer Catch-up)

A portrait of my son, once a week, every week, in 2016.

Little Man : My water baby! Within the first few days of our trip Pennsylvania, we found you a lake and go back to that lake over and over we did. You could live in water. Nothing makes you happier than splashing around and running… feeling the weight of the water on your legs as you are making your way across. You even learned that having floaties is not a punishment but a ticket to freedom. Oh the fun we had! I love seeing that big beautiful smile. This was the first week-end of 2 beautiful weeks with our family and friends. What a blast we had! ❤

Little Miss : My little lady… You were so happy sitting and remembering snippets of the last time you were by this river. This trip down to Pennsylvania was a little confusing to you. You were 3 years old last time we went and your memory was spotty. Things felt familiar, but everything was still new. We had so much fun discovering it again together. ❤

25/52 – Her & Him

A portrait of my son, once a week, every week, in 2016.

Little Man : Late afternoon sunlight and a very low tide make for a happy Little Man! It’s finally been warm enough that we can let you get as dirty and wet as you want and you have been in heaven. I know we have to teach about restraint. Not every situation allows you to be completely wild and free, but luckily, those moments are few and far between… for now anyway! Don’t grow up too fast my love. These are the best days! ❤

Little Miss : Oh summer days, oh summer days… This was taken a few days before school was officially out and I could feel you needing some time : time to explore without instruction, time to listen to yourself think… unstructured. Freedom! I know you will miss your friends and your teacher, but you will go back next fall rested and renewed. School break is an important part of the “school” experience. You will come to treasure it.   ❤

A portrait of my son, once a week, every week, in 2016.

IMG_5432 (1280x853)

Little Man : Oh oh oh! Daddy gave you guys an old sink, old pots an pans, access to water, prep space and a bucket full of dirt and sand… HEAVEN! And with the rainy week we’ve been having, it was all mud kitchen all the time. What fun messy times are ahead!   ❤

Little Miss : There was no getting you to come inside from the pouring rain… Your lips were blue, your hands freezing, but you just wanted to play : Busy mixing your soups and potions, running all over the yard and gardens for ingredients. What a sight to see! I think there isn’t a day all week daddy didn’t come home to huge hugs for the great mud kitchen he made for you guys. WE are all so lucky to have him.  ❤

23/52 – Her & Him (Catch-up)

A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2016.

IMG_5364 (1280x853)

Little Miss : My fearless girl : We went walking to identify some plants and came across the biggest stinging nettle patch we had ever seen. So what did you do? Went walking through it. There was a pathway about 2 feet wide and you crossed your arms and walked one foot in front of the other, giggling the whole way. You asked if next year you can help me pick them. So we will get you set up with a thick pair of gloves and some shears. I love that I can share my passion of herbs with you. This is truly a wonderful gift.  ❤

Little Man : Speaking of fearless… I swear there is nothing you won’t do to test that strong little body of yours. And so independent. Dad had his hand close, but you didn’t want to grab it. You were determine to walk that “tightrope” all by yourself and you did! You are lucky mama is not too much of a worrier. I have a feeling that adrenaline will be running high pretty often. ❤

22/52 – Her & Him (Catch-up)

A portrait of my son, once a week, every week, in 2016.

IMG_5336 (1280x853)

Little Man : So full of wonder this year. Last year was about bulldozing through nature, climbing, banging, throwing, stomping… This year, although much of your energy is still there, it is more directed. You get more intrigued by textures and colors. You have started looking up, noticing birds singing and the wind through the trees. I think it will be a wonderful summer of discovery… Mom will just have to keep an eye out. What you can’t see in this picture is that you chose a spot 2 feet away from a poison ivy patch! It will be a delicate balancing act, but we will find it together again. ❤

Little Miss : “Mom! Make me the Dandelion Queen and I will use my magic to make my fairy garden grow!” And that you did. So much of your efforts last year are rewarding you now. All those lupins you started from seeds are popping up, the Ground cover and perennials you planted coming back with force. You are so proud of the work you do, it is wonderful to see. Our garden fairies are so lucky to have you. ❤
