I’ve been sick the last few days, sick with awful laryngitis. Nights have been horrible, sleep has been non-existent and the weather has been sticky and muggy and making the whole thing worse.
I have to admit that this morning, taking Little Miss to preschool felt good. But I still needed time. I’m not one of those people who needs big productions to feel like alone time has been had. Just an hour to do something that I want to do, without having to manage anything or anybody else but me… So my mom came to the rescue and took Little Man for a few hours so I could just go. What did I go do you may ask?
There is an industrial road just minutes from our home. Mostly, it is lumber yards, general contractors and quarries. But for as long as I can remember, there has been a stretch of fields along that road that have been unoccupied and filled with what feels like century old wild blueberry bushes. It is a carpet stretching as far as the eye can see. Some of the bushes are as tall as I am. I like to pretend that the person that owns the land has kept it empty to preserve the natural heritage (a lady can dream!) and all true summer, every day of every week while blueberries are in season, there are people in the fields, buckets in hand, filling up. When I felt the cool breeze this morning, knowing the heat and humidity was coming, I set for the patch and gave myself an hour to pick everything I could. At the time I was there this morning (before 8am), it was me and the field. In one hour, I picked 4 cups!
As you can tell from the last few pictures, the season is only starting, so we are planning a family trip back this week-end and we are making wild blueberry and maple jam!
When I came back home to my mom’s, Little Man had fallen asleep in his stroller. He was happily napping in the sun and I got to spend some time with my mom. Bonus!
And tonight, there are dishes to be washed, clothes to be washed, clothes to be folded, toys to be picked up and mail to be sorted through… and all these things will get done : Tomorrow! And that is okay…
Good night everyone! Be good to yourselves.
Hope you feel better soon! 🙂

Thank you… if I can just sleep a few nights, I’m sure it will be 10X better… Tonight is suppose to be really hot again, but the temps are suppose to go down tomorrow and we should get storms. That should help!

Hasn’t the humidity been tough! I can hear the thunder now, rolling through the skies, now if only some rain would fall and break the heat. Fingers crossed.
So nice to have wild blueberries, we don’t have them around here, a little farther north, but we haven’t made it up there, and I am afraid have missed the prime crop. Always next year. And of course the blueberry farm not just down the road opens on Friday 🙂
Feel better soon. xo

We are yet to have a thunder storm this whole summer. I would just LOVE one right now. But they are announcing 90% chances of precipitations with 10 mm of rain tomorrow afternoon and evening. *fingers crossed indeed*
I don’t know many wild blueberry fields other than this one. I feel blessed to be so close to such abundance. But we also have yummy blueberry farms up the road ans I plan on making some reserves to cook an to freeze for smoothies. 🙂
Thank you, I will try to get better soon, But summer sick is the worse. 😛

Thank you!
I try to nap, or at least lay down and relax, every day, but the heat has been close to unbearable. So most of my “down time” has been spent floating in the pool. LOL!
If I’m successful with my jam, I’ll share the recipe! 🙂

Hope you feel better soon! Your jam sounds delicious. Near where we used to live in the UK, there was a crag with lots of wild bilberry bushes (as they’re called in those parts!). I also love going blackberrying.

I’ve yet to find a blackberry in my neighborhood. I know I can go to a few farmer’s to pick them, but even they are few and far between. We have how ever planted a black mulberry tree 3 years ago. We should be seeing the start of fruit next year or the year after. Very exciting!
Thank you for the well-wishes. xo

Thank you… I’m feeling a bit better this morning. Got a couple of solid hours of sleep last night which is a vast improvement.
I will share it for sure… I found a few recipes recipes I like, but they might require “tweaking”. 🙂

That was nothing Karen, if I hadn’t promised my mom I’d limit myself to an hour (she was afraid I’d faint in the sun LOL!) I could have kept going. So many blueberries! I can’t wait to go back on Sunday morning.
Thank you for the wishes, I’m feeling a bit better this morning. My voice is getting back to normal. 🙂

Hope you’re feeling properly better now. It always feels so much worse being poorly when it’s hot. But how lovely having wild blueberries close to you, hopefully you ate a good few as well!

Yes, I’m feeling much better now. Lungs are a little sketchy still. I get caught in awful coughing spells, but my energy is back so that is nice. Thank you…
And YES, the blueberries were such a success that the jam got put on hold until the next time picking (most likely tomorrow) and most of them got eaten as snacks. The left overs will go in salad tonight and muffins tomorrow morning.
