Throughout winter, despite the cold, we were lucky enough to get a few days here and there when the weather would give us a break. It hasn’t happened often, but we have tried to take full advantage of them when they do come our way. Yesterday was one of those glorious days.

Early morning (before 8 am), it was already -8’C (18’F) so we hit a local trail and just walked until both kiddos were too hungry to go on. We had received about 10 inches of the most powdery snow we had seen all year. Being one of the first groups on the trails that day, waves of white rolled at our feet as we walked. More than once, we had to pull Little Miss out of snow banks she had sunk in too deep to do it solo and we got several good laughs out of it. The birds were happy to see us and although it was too cold to keep our hands out of our mittens for long, we managed to find ways of feeding them anyway.

As the sun was peeking in and out of clouds, the day would go from ultra bright to almost dusk dark. Shadows in the thick pine forest made the place seem magical and the branches, heavy with snow, would snap up at the slightest graze, sending clouds of flakes over our heads (and down our coats Brrrrrr…) as we pushed on.

A hearty brunch was waiting for us at my parents’ place at the end of our walk and we all ate with veracious appetites. Needless to say, naps were very welcomed after such a soul-healing morning in the beautiful woods we love so much.

Only a few days left before March says hello and I won’t lie, I’m ready for Spring. I’m usually not this antsy for winter to end, but with the cold and fury of the last few months, my body is worn down from so much chill and is ready for the rest that comes with a warm Spring breeze.

Wishing you all a wonderful week. Hope your week-ends were as happy as ours.

As we get to know each other, you will know me as a quilter, a gardener, a Tao cultivator, a vegetarian foodie, a true believer in a healthy family life as being the secret to my happiness and hopefully as time goes on, a friend... I will try to share with you my days as they unfold, speaking of my happy successes without censoring my challenges, trying to make this blog a true portrait of the ever-changing path that I have chosen for myself. I'm hoping to find in these pages others to share with and learn from, bringing to light the absolute connection in all things and people, showing this world as being a true community.

  1. Love the photos, especially ones of Little Miss enjoying in the snow and pretending to be a bird feeder 🙂 Our Saturday was beautiful as well. Got up early, gone for a run near the river and after set down on a sun bathed bench to meditate. Gotta love weekends! 🙂

Yes, you have to love week-ends! e actually continued on at the end of the day with a fire in the snow in our backyard. I was just too lazy to snap pictures. We had the lawn chairs sunk into the snow and were playing, lighting sticks in the embers, came in to yummy rice and lentil soup and hot cocoa. Truly, a perfect day! I’m glad your week-end was just as lovely. xo

Sorry if this makes you feel bad but I’m drooling over the pictures of your snow –we’ve had unseasonably warm weather lately and I just want a bit more wintery weather before spring comes:)

Oh, and don’t get me wrong : If winter would be like last Sunday, I wouldn’t want it to end either. It’s just been insanely cold. It’s -35’C with the wind right now. Even my thick Canadian blood can’t handle it.

Everything is still heavy with snow today. Even in our yard. We have a stocky little yew on the side of the house, it looks like a hunched old man right now. I would think that 10 inches of snow where you live would constitute a national state of emergency! LOL!

Thank you Karen… if you love winter, than Canada definitely has some beautiful winter to share! 🙂 I agree with you. Although we have been trying to all get out everyday, even if just for 10 minutes, I miss long leisurely walks. We should get our chance first week of March. They are finally announcing normal temps. *fingers crossed*
